Margaret Patricia Sutherland
On October 25th, Midge also lovingly known as Margie and Aunt Margaret returned to our Lord. Locust Valley and Glen Cove were her home for 93 years. She joined Patty and family who loved her dearly for her remaining years in Virginia. Midge graduated from Glen Cove High School with a diploma in Business Subjects and from The Packard School, NYC with a diploma in the study of Stenographic and Secretarial Studies. She enjoyed a 42 year career with Citi Bank at the Manhattan Corporate Centers. Margie was considered more than a loyal employee but also a friend and mentor to all at Citi Bank. Midge's zeal for life and friends was evident through her involvement in sports. The change in season meant a progression to the enjoyment of another sport. League bowling with her friends was a passion and every Saturday and Sunday during the summer we met at Stehli's beach for swimming. Her life was filled with the love of teaching her niece ice skating at Beaver Dam and skiing at Hunter Mountain. In retirement she joined a golf foursomes and enjoyed every outing. Golfing several times a week and meeting new friends. Midge believed in sports and its power for building lasting friendships. She believed sports were essential to full life and expressions of goodwill. Aunt Margaret taught her great niece, Kathy, the art of roller skating during visits to VA and was delighted when her great nephew, Michael, devoted his life to youth and golf. Her face lite up with that joyful smile when watching her great-great-nephews and great-great-niece dance to music during their visits. Aunt Margaret is described by her family as supporting them with her faith, personal strength and unconditional love through life's fun adventures and difficult times. She had valued and nurtured friendships that lasted lifetimes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The First Tee of the Upstate: 1168 North Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. This organization incorporates her love of golf and reinforces the essential core values of life for our youth. Visitation will be Friday, November 2nd from 3-5pm and 7-9pm at McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home at 220 Glen Street, Glen Gove. Mass will be celebrated at 9:45am on Saturday, November 3rd at St. Patrick's Church, Glen Cove. Interment immediately following at Holy Road Cemetery in Westbury.
