Obituary

Margaret S. Peguillan, 92, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret's life journey began in Woodhaven where she was born the youngest of six children to Frederick V. and Helen (Ochs) Goess. Margaret is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward J. Peguillan, Sr., her aforementioned parents, her siblings: Helen (Elmer) Thran, Grace (Joseph) Donovan, Mary Goess, Frederick Goess (Patricia), and Doris (James) Powers as well as her parents-in-law, Raoul and Valerie Peguillan and her brother-in-law, George Peguillan (Barbara). She is survived by her five children: Edward J. Peguillan, Jr. (Bonnie), John Peguillan (Deidre), Anne Marie Durney (George), William Peguillan (Donna), and Stephen Peguillan (Lisa) as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. Her legacy will live on through her much adored twelve grandchildren, their spouses, and her two great-granddaughters! Family was truly Mom's sanctuary and meant the world to her! Countless incredible memories were made with her very large and loving family – especially those memories made during our times spent at Breezy Point!

As a secretary to "Elsie the Cow" with the Borden Company, Margaret met the love of her life and, in 1959, Margaret and Edward married. Sadly, Edward passed away suddenly in 1974, leaving her widowed with five young children. So, in 1979, Margaret took a job as secretary to the principal at the Locust Valley Middle and High School, which allowed her to be near home and present for her children. She never missed a sporting event or activity! She retired after 18 years of employment and will forever be known as one of the most loved Moms in the school.

Margaret was a daily communicant of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Glen Cove, and served there in many capacities over the years: as an Extraordinary Minister, a Eucharistic Adoration Captain, a CCD teacher, an offertory counter, and as a member of the Bereavement Committee. She is someone who not only relied on her faith but truly LIVED it.

Over the last several months, Margaret lived at The Regency at Glen Cove where she received amazing care. Rita, Angela, Martha (from Northwell Hospice) and the entire Regency staff took such loving care of Mom each and every day, treating her with the utmost dignity and respect. We will be forever grateful to them all!

Mom was an angel on earth who positively impacted the life of everyone she encountered. She was a beacon of warmth, kindness, understanding and compassion - truly dignified and humble in all that she did. She sacrificed everything for her family and children and, through it all, exhibited unwavering love, strength, perseverance, resilience, and courage. We have been blessed to have had her in our lives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 235 Glen Street, Glen Cove. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 21st, 2025 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, 220 Glen Street, Glen Cove. Margaret will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Locust Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church of Glen Cove or Northwell Hospice.
