On June 6, 2023, John J. Rummo passed on peacefully in his sleep, with his family by his side.
John was born in Flushing, NY to James and Lucy Rummo. John was the President of Flushing High School. He then attended Queens College where he was ROTC and played football. While a student, he met his future wife Marie. They became accomplished ballroom dancers, winning awards. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, John became a pilot in the United States Air Force. Stationed at Roswell, New Mexico and Laredo, Texas, he flew fighter jets during the Cold War.
After returning home from service, he and Marie married in 1961. John and Marie moved to Glen Cove where they raised their daughter, Valerie, and became life-long residents.
John spent a total or 45 years working on Wall Street with many prominent firms. His first 24 years were with E.F. Hutton, where he started as a broker and rose to Assistant Branch Manager of the Garden City office. He accepted a promotion to their New York City office as First Vice President, Syndicate National Product Manager. He remained at that position until the firm closed. He then held the same position at Shearson Lehman Hutton and Lehman Brothers. His remaining years were spent at Smith Barney. John retired in 2009.
John loved his time away from the office as much as at his desk. His weekends and nights were spent on the golf course, fishing, playing tennis and poker, all of which were shared with his family and friends.
John also had a passion for his professional teams. He was a lifelong season ticket holder with the New York Giants, from their time at Yankee Stadium through their new home at MetLife Stadium. He was also a diehard New York Yankee fan, from Mickey Mantle through Aaron Judge.
John was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Marie, who passed one day shy of their sixtieth wedding anniversary. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Valerie Rummo-Caio, his son-in-law, Ralph Caio Jr., his sister, Eleanor Hunt, nieces Elizabeth Rosica, Joanne Hunt, and nephew, Thomas Hunt.
