John Victor Cassara
February 4, 1934 - December 10, 2022
John Victor Cassara, passed away in Fort Lauderdale, FL on December 10, 2022 and was 88 years young. John was born in Brooklyn, NY and was the first born son of John and Isabella Cassara. He was also the beloved brother to his sister Geraldine. John and his partner Charles Brown were lovingly together for more than 52 years. The moment marriage became legal in the state of NY they got married. Sadly, he lost Charlie in December 2015.
John attended P.S. 45 Elementary School, John Adams H.S and completed 3 years of college at Brooklyn College. John started working at an early age in the Insurance Industry. Early on in his career, he was voted underwriter of the year. Recognizing his extreme talent, John was asked to take over Murphy & Jordan, an insurance brokerage house, in which he accepted. Realizing the unique Brownstone homes located in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Boston Proper he created a specialized insurance product, for the community and formed the Brownstone Agency, Inc. which became the parent company to Murphy & Jordan. John never stopped working and remained CEO. He and Charlie owned an antique store and restaurant {Charlie's) in Park Slope Brooklyn. His knowledge and success came natural to him. He was often teased about having the Midas touch and carrying around a crystal ball.
John had a love for classical music and started playing the violin at the age of 10 and continued to play his entire life. He enjoyed entertaining, surrounding himself with family and friends, going out to restaurants, attending an opera or broadway show and exploring museums. On weekends you could find him in his summer home on Shelter Island enjoying a round of golf and finishing up the day playing gin. His love of Art and being able to find a diamond in the ruff was extraordinary, John had a special gift of mentoring and teaching so many. When he spoke, all gathered to listen and learn. He was simply brilliant!
John's selflessness and generosity touched so many people throughout his life. He was someone you could lean on and seek advice from . He lovingly took care of his mother, sister, family, friends, colleagues, and employees his whole life and never expected anything in return. His extreme generosity and selflessness also expanded to charitable organizations such as The Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club, Salesian Sisters and so many more.
John is survived by his Sister Geraldine Simone, his three nephews and their children Thomas, Gracie Matthew, Madison, John, Lydia, Skylar, Johnny, Michael and Nicole.
